I Am Sorry, but Have Any of You Seen Star Trek?
socialjusticefail:
“Whitewashed” Khan is hilarious because Montalban is light as hell and clearly not supposed to be Indian in The Wrath of Khan. Nor he is ever confirmed in Space Speed to be Indian. Not even in the final script. That’s because it made no sense, people, and was racist as hell. All classic 1960s “brown villain” tropes. The guy was in brownface. He also use actual documented...

And pretty much anything that’s action or targeted to guys
A guy friend of mine today said it was weird that my friend had all the X-Men movies because she was a girl. Needless to say we almost threw him out of the car. So I would like to prove to him that just because we...

Ok, so, my dad and I are major Star Trek nerds. I’ve spent some time reading people’s arguments about Benedict Cumberbatch playing Khan in the new movie, and to be quite honest I’m upset.
While sitting here, I asked my dad (just to be sure I was correct) if Khan’s race was a major issue in the original film, simply because it had been awhile since I watched it.

where the fuck are the boxer briefs for ladies
just make underwear that are just like boxer briefs but without the bulgy package area in front for fuck’s sake
you don’t need to make them shiny or lacy just make them comfy and streamlined without awkward seams and maybe in some basic colours that aren’t white or that awful “flesh tone” colour

I am a Native American minority, have been a Star Trek fan almost all my life, a Benedict Cumberbatch fan in the last couple years, and currently study race and racism for a living. So when it comes to this issue of a white man playing a non-white star trek character, I think I can safely say that I have some perspective.
And guess what? I am fine with him playing Khan, if that...

Rather than saying “race doesn’t matter,” say “race shouldn’t matter.”

I will have a longer post later but I just wanted to say that people who didn’t like the fact that Benedict Cumberbatch was Khan need to stop generalizing to the rest of us that we didn’t like him either. It is all well and good to have your opinion and not like it, but some of us, many of us,…
